Legal Defense Fund
When government entities attempt to regulate beyond the bounds of proper authority, NAHB targets these issues and seeks positive legal precedent on behalf of the industry.
-National Association of Homebuilders
What does this mean for you?
• In November of 2006 the Executive Committee unanimously recommended to the Board of Directors that $30,000 of the surplus balance from the Government Affairs budget be set aside to begin the creation of a Legal Defense Fund that would ultimately total at least $100,000.
• To date the Association has $55,000 in available legal defense funds.
• Funds have already been allocated towards the defense and extension of vested rights in the City of Albuquerque.
Build Green New Mexico
BGNM is the HBA of CNM’s sustainable building program. It utilizes the National Association of Home Builders’ Model Green Home Building Guidelines, adapted to our regional environment. The Guidelines provide builders with a flexible and systemic guide to building green.
Beyond program management and the rapid growth, BGNM has been very involved with local and state officials to incorporate its standards into the rapidly developing wave of sustainable building legislation, incentives and mandates. This Legislative Session Governor Richardson passed the Sustainable Building Tax Credit that recognizes homes built to Build Green NM’s standards, and offers up to $11,000 in tax credits. Locally, Mayor Martin Chavez has recognized our program as a means toward making Albuquerque a sustainable city. BGNM and HBA of CNM members serve on the Mayor’s Green Ribbon Task Force and are part of a team of industry leaders and elected officials working towards a building code rewrite for the City of Albuquerque.
Directional Sign Program
Part of the Government Affairs/Community Relations efforts over the past year has been concentrated on the development of the directional sign program. The program has been endorsed by the City of Albuquerque and local builders, removing the headache of proper signage from your sales and marketing operations. Our temporary kiosks are fully managed and uniform- clearing the streets of unsightly signage providing a valuable community service to the City and surrounding communities.
Homebuilders in the central New Mexico area derive over half of their sales from directional signage use. The kiosks assist future homebuyers in their search while nurturing the growth that comes from new residential development.
